Post-Doctoral Research Fellow job positions now available

Post one: Injection-locking of Terahertz Frequency Quantum Cascade Lasers

The project will focus on injection-locking of THz quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) to THz radiation generated using photoconductive emitters, excited by high precision 1550 nm diode lasers, using both integrated and free-space approaches. To apply, you should have experience in the fabrication of semiconductor opto-electronic devices, using optical lithography, as well as the design and use of optical system.  You should also have experience in either injection-locking of semiconductor laser sources and/or THz generation/detection using photoconductive emitters.

Post two: Development of Electrically Tuneable Terahertz Frequency Quantum Cascade Lasers

The project will focus on the design, fabrication and measurement of multi-sectioned cavities, including the incorporation of grating structures, enabling voltage-controlled, frequency tuneability in THz QCLs.This will open up the possibility of developing tuneable QCLs for use in heterodyne mixing schemes. To apply, you should have experience in the fabrication, using optical lithography, and measurement of THz QCLs, or closely related device structures.

Post three: Phase-locking of Terahertz Frequency Quantum Cascade Lasers

The project will focus on the use of electro-optic and fast photoconductive detection to achieve phase-locking between 1550 nm diode lasers and THz frequency QCLs. To apply, you should have experience in phase-locking of semiconductor laser sources, and the design and use of optical systems.

 

For all three positions, you should have or expect to be awarded, a relevant PhD in Physics, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.  You should also have a strong record of publications in international refereed journals, and have a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
